Lyric Theatre
The Lyric Theatre opened in 1903, merged with 1910 The Apollo Theatre between 1996-98, is a historically sophisticated venue in the heart of Broadway. Besides the multiple renovations and mergers, it showcases a complicated removal, stabilization + reinforcement, and reinstallation plaster case study.
After 2010, motivated by the technical requirements for the musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, the Lyric removed most of its decorative plaster elements. Dismantling plaster presents a rigorous challenge because it assumes a reverse operation in the future. In 2014, with the end of the musical, the Lyric started the reinstallation procedure.
For the reinstallation of its various theatrical elements and the proscenium, HPCS USA stabilized the plaster using 3 step consolidation* and reinforced them with Re Aramid Gel and Ad 25 Gel. Careful reinstallation, plaster repair, and painting followed. Furthermore, acoustical plaster** was installed around the proscenium arch to improve sound quality.
